I graduate with my BA in Creative Writing this December and when I started to read this post, I thought it would make me feel bad about my decision to major in this degree. You have inspired me that I made the right decision and made me see that I need to use my writing skills on a daily basis. The problem with getting this degree is that even though you do sharpen your writing skills, you often time just give professors what they want. I haven’t written what I really wanted to write in so long. It is about time someone knocked some sense into this writer. Thank you so much.

Well, its sad to know that you gave up on Dvorak, however do find some time to give it a try once again. I am typing on a qwerty right now (in office) and pretty comfortable with it. As I told you once before that use a laptop-sorta flat keyboard for dvorak so that your finger-tips get a different feeling while typing.

However your concerns are right, and I second those. The number 5 is so true that you should really make it bold and bigger in font :p

Keep going with the Dvorak! It’s great. When I made the switch, I found I had to stop typing in Qwerty at all if I wanted to have any chance of getting fully fluent. Now I can type both fine. Interesting afterthought: I’ve found the speed advantages to be greatly exaggerated; what I’ve found instead is a greatly increased comfort from Dvorak (I never knew Qwerty was painful until I had something else to compare it to!)

Those little gold stars got me 206 points on the weekly reader chart when I was in 6th grade. The highest in my class. (because I read the Lord of the rings trilogy in it’s entirety, and those were worth 25 stars apiece)

Boy, I must admit though, it’s time to get on that exercise thing.

Dodie Smith’s wonderful novel I Capture the Castle contains a writer/father who’s had writer’s block for years. His teen children finally lock him in the ruined castle tower and only let him out when he starts writing again. His first pages are just, “The cat sat on the mat. The cat sat on the mat. . .” Eventually, he writes a novel about how consciousness alters when a child learns to read—a beautiful simile for the writing process itself.
